With St. Patrick's Day around the corner, I thought I would bring you some luck that is not just for the Irish. There are several benefits to having an engagement session which can be seen as an investment in good fortune for your future.

1.) Better Wedding Day Photos

Your wedding day will move quickly and knowing what to expect in advance can help the process move more smoothly. A good photographer will give you a mini lesson in posing on your engagement session and you can practice before the wedding. Posing can vary from traditional style to more natural looking poses, but it is an important part of your the process. Personally, I set up the couple to look natural in a pose. To make a beautiful bride look her best, posing will bring that out. Posing can slim, add curves, hide problem areas and place you in the best light. Photography is all about the light. In fact, the word means in the original Greek to” draw with light”. So the right positioning can make all the difference between a good photo and a bad one. There is usually a limited amount of time to get those wedding day shots and having “practiced” can actually improve the overall quality of your wedding day photos. I will let you in a little secret, this is the reason I include the engagement session in most of my packages. I want to ensure the best possible photos on the day of the wedding.

2.) Gaining Trust In Your Photographer

Another advantage of the engagement session prior to your wedding is building trust with your photographer. Seeing pictures and knowing you like your photos, will help build that trust. You are in a sense, getting a sneak preview of your wedding day photos.

3.) Test Your Makeup On Camera

This is an opportunity see how well you like your makeover by having your makeup

done on the same day as your engagement session. This way, you get to see how it looks in photos and let your makeup artist know what you would like done differently on your wedding day.

4.)Free Photos

Many photographers include the engagement session as part of the package so why not take advantage of it.

5.) They Make Great Gifts

Engagement images also make great gifts for parents, grandparents and the wedding party.

6.) “Save the Date”

Your engagement images can be used for “Save the Date” cards or engagement announcements.

7.) It’s A Date

Have your engagement photos taken at a location can a romantic and fun experience. You may choose the place engaged or where you had your first date, or enjoy a shared interest. Some locations to consider: a scenic park, the place where you met, the zoo, a beach, a fair or amusement park. You can make a date out of it.

Your engagement photos will remain a keepsake for you and your fiance to remember this special time in your lives when you were dating. Capturing the love and depth of a couple who is joining each other in the sanctity of marriage, the playful interaction with one another on an engagement session, gives me great joy. I love to be connected to these special moments. My career in counseling, has led me to deeply value relationships. As a photographer, I strive to capture that sentiment forever. -Lori
